Humboldt’s Malo in state field

SPENCER — Brynn Malo will get the opportunity to compete at the upcoming state cross country meet.

Malo, a Humboldt sophomore, finished 14th here Wednesday at a Class 3A qualifier. She had a time of 20:15.08 to lead the way for the Wildcats.

Algona freshman Mara Davis just missed out on advancing, placing 17th overall.

Gilbert’s Emee Dani was the race winner, leading the Tigers to a first place finish as a team. Sioux Center and Sioux City Heelan both moved on.

Humboldt was eighth overall and Algona ninth.

Izzy Grossoehme finished 38th for the Lynx with Bella Metli placing 45th for the Wildcats.

Gilbert also won the boys title followed by MOC-Floyd Valley and Sioux Center. Algona was eighth, Webster City 11th and Humboldt 12th.

Justin Callahan finished 27th to lead the way for the Lynx with Jack Barner 44th.

Jace Mortensen was the top Algona finisher, placing 34th, with teammates Isaac Wilson 37th and Ryley Riggert 39th. For Humboldt, Gabe Thumma finished 42nd.

The 3A state cross country meet takes place Saturday, Oct. 28 in Fort Dodge from Lakeside Golf Course.
