Repeat champs not uncommon in men’s bracket

It hasn’t happened in over a decade, but history actually shows repeat men’s open division winners at the Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County golf tournament aren’t all that uncommon.
Pat Wendell was the first to do so, going back-to-back in 1982 and 1983. Dave Sergeant followed with consecutive titles in 1990 and 1991.
Cory Braunschweig was the first to three-peat, claiming gold in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Kevin Ault then reeled off a record five straight crowns, reigning from 2006-10.
The last was Colin Pearson, who reached the top in 2011 and did so again in 2012. And while there have been no repeat winners since, Austin Morrow (2015, 2019 and 2021), Ryan Reeder (2018 and 2020) and Eddie Doyle (2017 and 2022) have all been victorious multiple times during that stretch — just not in consecutive fashion.
This year’s two-day event is now just a week away, running Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9. All citizens who either live or work in Webster County are invited to participate.
Tee times are being accepted now. The men’s open, senior (50 and older) and super senior (65 and older) divisions are asked to sign up by July 5 at Lakeside Golf Course, where the first round will take place. The women’s open, senior and super senior competitors will register at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Tee times will be set in nine-minute increments on the men’s side, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Lakeside. Women’s tee times start at 8 a.m.
Groups are asked to sign up either by phone or in person at their respective designated courses as soon as possible.
For more information or to sign up, please call the FDCC (955-8551) or Lakeside (576-6741).
