Gael baseball in action at CYO

CARROLL — The St. Edmond baseball team ran into a pair of tough opponents here Saturday at the CYO Tournament.

The Gaels suffered losses to Carroll Kuemper (14-4) and Bishop Garrigan (12-5).

Hayden Derrig continued his strong hitting ways with a double while also scoring a run to lead St. Edmond. Jack McElroy had an RBI with JT Laufersweiler, Ethan Swisher and Joe Touney all scoring a run.

Kinnick Henning had four strikeouts on the mound vs. Kuemper.

In the loss to the Golden Bears, Derrig had two RBI and another double, Tourney was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Swisher had a hit and scored a run.

McElroy picked up three strikeouts in relief.

For Bishop Garrigan, Nathan Merron collected three RBI and Keaton Helleseth had two. Justin Bauer stole three bases and Daniel Meis earned the win, striking out eight in five innings.

The Golden Bears also suffered a 4-3 loss to LeMars Gehlen during the tournament. Bauer had three hits, as did Carter Schwab.

St. Edmond returns home on Monday night to host Algona at Rogers Park in North Central Conference action beginning at 7:30 p.m.
