Harvey earns runner up honor for Gaels
EARLHAM — The St. Edmond girls track team picked up a handful of Top-10 finishes here Tuesday at the Cardinal Early Bird hosted by Earlham.
This was the first outdoor meet of the season for the Gaels, who were scheduled to compete on Monday at Greene County before weather canceled the event.
Josie Harvey led the way for St. Edmond, securing runner-up honors in the 100-meter hurdles. Harvey clocked a time of 17.82, finishing only behind Atlantic’s Jayci Reed, who won in 17.70.
“All in all, I’m very happy with what these girls did,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We posted some very good times for our first outdoor meet of the season.
“We made some improvements from the UNI meet and got to see how we do in other races.”
The 4×800-meter relay of Anna Lursen, Ellie Knox, Hannah Landwehr and Michaela Leiting came away in fourth with a time of 10:27.26, while the 4×200 of Faith Shirbroun, Landwehr, Brianna Saathoff and Lursen was fifth in 1:57.85.
Knox was fifth in the high jump (4-8), Leiting sixth in the 1,500 (5:33.91) and eighth in the 400), and Shirbroun eighth in the long jump (14-4).
The 4×400 of Shirbroun, Landwehr, Knox and Lursen placed fifth in 4:29.74, while the sprint medley of Kaili Henning, Sasha Hess, Shirbroun and Saathoff was seventh in 2:03.97.
“It was a good night for these girls,” Tracy said. “They are a hard working group and are going to do some special things this season.”
St. Edmond is scheduled to run in Gowrie at the Richard Ryan Relays on Monday.
