The Iowa Central men’s and women’s soccer teams made their home debuts here Wednesday against Northeast.

In the men’s contest, Northeast posted a 4-1 victory, while the Hawks claimed the women’s contest, 2-0.

Coming into the men’s game, Northeast had already claimed five wins on the season, scoring a total of 36 goals. That included an 11-0 victory over Lake County and a recent 8-1 triumph vs. College of DuPage.

The Tritons (0-2 overall) took an early 1-0 lead on the Hawks, with the score remaining that way until the second half. During that stretch of action, Northeast tallied four goals to secure the win.

Paul Einero made history for Northeast, scoring his 19th and 20th career goals, setting a new school record for most career goals.

Iowa Central’s goal came off an assist from Caden Ruff by Ombeni Mubaki. Unfortunately, Mubaki picked up two yellow cards during the match and was taken off the pitch.

“It was a tough loss,” ICCC head men’s coach Pablo Rodriguez said. “We had good control of the game when Ombeni received his second yellow to get a red. We struggled with 10 against 11.

“We have to dust ourselves off because we play NIACC at their place on Saturday.”

In the women’s contest, the Hawks (5-0) scored a goal in the first half and added an insurance one in the final 45 minutes. They have allowed just two goals in five matches, scoring 24.

The loss dropped the Tritons to 1-1 on the year, as they downed John Wood this past weekend, 1-0 on an Abigail Jensen second half goal.

“Our backline played very well against an extremely athletic team,” ICCC head women’s coach Jordan Sibenaller said. “We need to do a better job of creating clear chances for our forwards.

“The girls played hard for 90 minutes.”

While Iowa Central and Northeast are both in the ICCAC, they play at different levels. Iowa Central is in Div. II and Northeast in Div. I.

Next action for the Tritons will be on Saturday when they travel to Mason City to face North Iowa Area.

Starting at $4.94/week.
