CARROLL — On a day in which four Fort Dodge Gypsum Miners were named Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League All-Stars, the team earned a road win over Carroll by a 5-2 final.

The Miners (9-17 overall) snapped a six-game losing skid behind the arm of Jacob Wesselmann, who fired an efficient 78-pitch complete game.

“This was a really good win for us,” Fort Dodge head coach Connor McLeod said. “Jacob was the man on the mound. He saved our bullpen.

“We need to start playing our best baseball with the playoffs approaching, and this was a perfect win to start it off.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Miner players Drew DeMers (OF), Sam Kimmorley (UT), Jose Guillen Jr. (OF) and Hector Prado (P) were recognized as PCBL All-Stars. Jamie Young will participate in the home run derby.

The All-Star Game is Sunday in Carroll.

The Miners plated two runs in the second inning, one in the third and two more in the fourth against the Merchants (11-17). Peyton Krugler had two RBI singles and a stolen base, while Young doubled and scored a run.

Devin Porter ripped an RBI double, and Derek Kay doubled and scored as well.

Jackie Jimenez singled and scored to back Wesselmann.

The Miners face Albert Lea on Friday and Carroll on Saturday, with both contests at Patterson Field.
