Bears upset No. 9 WB-M WEST BEND — There was no hangover for the Bishop Garrigan football team on Friday. The Golden Bears (1-1 overall) were making their second straight road trip, and a week after losing to St. Edmond, Garrigan scored an upset as the Golden Bears knocked off No. 9 West Bend-Mallard (1-1), 36-31. MAXWELL — The St. Edmond football team hits the road for the first time this week while also opening district play. The Gaels (1-0 overall) take on Collins-Maxwell (1-0) here Friday night in an eight-player, District 9 contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Last week, St. Edmond downed rival Bishop Garrigan inside Dodger Stadium, 42-34, outscoring the Golden Bears in the second half, 22-13. It was a strong opening week for the newly ranked Messenger-area teams as they came up with big wins to start the season.
