Bears upset No. 9 WB-M

WEST BEND — There was no hangover for the Bishop Garrigan football team on Friday.

The Golden Bears (1-1 overall) were making their second straight road trip, and a week after losing to St. Edmond, Garrigan scored an upset as the Golden Bears knocked off No. 9 West Bend-Mallard (1-1), 36-31.

Garrigan quarterback Tate Foertsch threw for three touchdowns and ran for one.

Sam Plathe had two touchdown catches and Justin Bauer also had one.

Ethan Marso added rushing touchdown.

Andrew Lichter recorded 13 tackles and Bauer had 11. Benji Trainer had eight tackles, while Brody Ludwig had a fumble recovery.

Cherry rushes for 322 yards

SPENCER — Jaxon Cherry was unstoppable on Friday night against Spencer on the road.

The senior running back pushed his total to over 500 yards in two games as ninth-ranked Webster City (2-0 overall) rolled over the Tigers (0-2) by a final of 37-7.

A week after going for 266 yards against Class 4A Fort Dodge a week, Cherry ran for 322 on 31 carries and five touchdowns against the Tigers.

In two games Cherry has eight touchdowns and 588 yards rushing.

Jaguars light up scoreboard

GOWRIE — Southeast Valley made constant trips to the end zone on Friday night, outscoring Eagle Grove 59-6.

The sixth-ranked Jaguars (2-0 overall) rushed for 222 yards and held the Eagles (0-2) to 109 on the ground.

Dalton Crouse had two touchdown runs.

Andrew Miller and Preston Kennedy also added TD scores. Cale Vansickle threw a touchdown pass.

Wildcats hold on for 14-13 victory

BALLARD — Fourth-ranked Humboldt withstood a stern road test to win a tight contest.

The Wildcats (2-0 overall) held Ballard (1-1) scoreless in the final quarter and a half to pull out a 14-13 victory.

Coen Matson was 17-for-29 passing for 131 yards and a touchdown strike to Corey Dettmann.

Dettmann caught nine balls for 95 yards.

The Wildcats other touchdown was a strip sack by Cael Donahe in the end zone, which Broedy Hendricks recovered.

In two games, the Wildcats have scored from five different aspects: running, passing, field goal, interception and fumble return.

The Humboldt defense gave up a short touchdown, and Ballard scored on the opening kickoff.
