HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt football team finds itself in the same situation as a year ago at this time in the playoffs. The Wildcats take on Independence here Friday night in a Class 3A quarterfinal. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Humboldt (9-1 overall) posted a 42-21 victory over the Mustangs (10-1) on Mason Maach Field last season to advance to the semifinals and the UNI-Dome. NEWELL — An impressive opening three quarters was more than enough for the Newell-Fonda football squad here on Thursday, as the Mustangs clinched a return trip to the state semifinals at the UNI-Dome with a 46-36 victory over Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
