Humboldt knocks off No. 3 H-D/C

HUMBOLDT — It was a special Homecoming for the Humboldt football team here on Friday night.

The Wildcats (3-2 overall, 1-0 in the district) upset third-ranked Hampton-Dumont (4-1, 0-1) by a final of 14-7.

All-state running back Lance Coon returned to the lineup after suffering a broken hand in the preseason and provided an instant spark. Coon had two rushing touchdowns to lead the Wildcats.

Keagan Groat recorded an intercetion.

“Lance rushed hard in his first game back and gave us some added energy,” said HHS head coach Derrick Elman. “Coen Matson had a huge third and long draw to set up the go-ahead touchdown.

“It was a great bounce-back win.”

Cougars blank EG for second straight win

MANSON — Manson Northwest Webster won its second consecutive contest and stayed unbeaten in district play here on Friday.

The Cougars (2-3 overall, 2-0 in the district) blanked Eagle Grove (0-5, 0-2) by a 39-0 final for their second straight victory.

MNW had six rushing touchdowns; all six were over 30 yards and three over 50.

Kamden Birkey had 55- and 67-yard scores, while Cooper Harman had scoring runs of 31 and 63 yards for MNW.

Grayson Klocko had a 48-yard touchdown jaunt and Logan Moline had a 36-yard TD.

Birkey finished with 150 yards on only 10 carries and Harman had six carries for 106 yards.

The Cougars had 432 yards of total offense and 342 on the ground.

Bears roll to fourth in a row

ROCKFORD — Bishop Garrigan ran its win streak to four staight on Friday night.

The Golden Bears (4-1 overall, 3-0) rolled past Rockford (0-5, 0-3), 60-0.

Owen Murphy started the contest with an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Caden Roethler had two touchdown runs of 16 and eight yards.

Tate Foertsch threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Sam Plathe (25 yards and 60 yards) and Benjy Trainer (24 yards).

Foertsch also had a four-yard rushing touchdown.

Drew Muller connected with Nick Leerar for a 30-yard touchdown.

Michael Joyce returned a punt 50 yards to paydirt.

Brody Ludwig led the defense with three sacks.

Mustangs fall to No. 5 Remsen

REMSEN — Fifth-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s improved to 5-0 with a 51-18 victory over Newell-Fonda on Friday.

The Mustangs (2-3 overall) scored first on a Trevor Johnson fumble recovery in the end zone.

Trenton Struss then cut the RSM (5-0) lead to 23-12 with a 55-yard touchdown run.

Ty Tauber added a 65-yard touchdown jaunt.

Struss finished with nine carries for 89 yards and Tauber had seven totes for 73.

Jaguars fall at home

GOWRIE — Southeast Valley lost a 20-14 contest to Roland-Story on Friday night.

Jaguar Cale VanSickle threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Miller.

Brady Hanson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.
