North Linn edges Sigourney

It took a little longer than usual, but the North Linn softball team is back in the state semifinals.

Sophomore Mackenzie Bridgewater drove in freshman Harley Henderson for the winning run in the eighth, as the Lynx knocked off Sigourney, 1-0.

North Linn (37-6 overall) will face Clarksville (29-1) in the Class 1A semis on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. on Iowa Central Field.

In a battle of two elite pitchers and rock-solid defenses, it was a costly error in extra innings that cost the Savages (26-5). Sigourneyás Carly Goodwin, a junior who has already committed to the University of Northern Iowa, struck out 12 and walked just one.

Opposing her was Ellie Flanagan, who wasnát in the lineup to pitch pre-game but battled through an injury to allow just four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Bridgewater was the lone player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with the double. Skylar Benesh, who made a handful of hit-saving plays at shortstop, had a hit and stole a base.

The Lynx have gone 10-3 over their last 13 state games, winning titles in 2019 and two years later.

Sigourney (26-5) will face Southeast Warren (25-7) at 3 p.m. Wednesday on Dodger Field in a consolation game.
