Ballard exploded for seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back here Tuesday night in an 11-5 Class 4A state quarterfinal victory over Carlisle at Rogers Park.

Isabell Hobbs drove in six runs for the fourth-ranked Bombers (34-5 overall), who set the school record for single-season wins by rolling past the No. 9 Wildcats (26-15). Ballard led by a 10-0 count at one point.

Rachel Newell had four hits and scored three times, while lead-off hitter Skylar Rigby went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Hannah Elliott contributed three hits. Hobbs also went deep and tripled.

Abby Carlin (22-4) allowed only one earned run and didn’t walk a batter, while striking out six. The Bombers backed her up with 19 hits, including five doubles.

Agatha Beier went 3-for-4 for Carlisle — last year’s 4A runner-up. Alyvia Dubois drove in a pair. Natalie McCormick homered.

Ballard meets Charles City (33-6) in Thursday’s semifinal round at 1:30 p.m. on Diamond 2. Carlisle takes on Fairfield (33-10) at noon on Diamond 2 in Wednesday’s consolation semifinal.
