Friends of St. Edmond Ball a success

To the editor: As co-chairs of the 36th Friends of St. Edmond Ball we would like to send a tremendous thank you to the community for making the 2019 ball a record setting one. Our theme this year was “Together We Can” and together we did! With your help and support we were able to raise $315,000 net of expenses. The Ball is the school’s main fundraiser each year. These funds have had an enormous impact on St. Edmond’s ability to remain committed to the mission of providing the highest quality education in a faith based and service focused environment. Let’s make the road safe for motorcycles

To the editor: April has been designated as Motor Awareness Month. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. These two things go very much hand in hand. Spring is upon us and motorcycles will be out and about. Motorists, having put up with a very cold and snowy winter, are also anxious to be out and about enjoying the nice weather. Unfortunately, too often this results in distracted driving and someone gets hurt or killed. Veterans event was a success

To the editor: On April 11, the Webster County Veterans Affair Commission held two sessions for veterans, spouses and widows, to give them valuable information and current details concerning Veterans Administration benefits for which they may be eligible. We had an excellent turnout, with over 80 people attending either the afternoon or evening session. We were very pleased with the number of attendees and the time they devoted to being there, so that we could talk with them and answer questions, providing one-on-one assistance in many cases. Webster County Museum board seeks public’s help finding new building

To the editor: The board of the Webster County Museum are inviting all the citizens of the county to a open forum to discuss the future of the museum. This meeting will be on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the VFW in Fort Dodge. There will be someone at the meeting who can give you a lot of the information about how important it is to keep the history of the county alive for the future generations. What a teaching tool it would be for the students to tour and see firsthand the exhibits. So much of the history will be lost when is closed for good if we do not get another ...

Pancake Day success will fund Kiwanis projects

To the editor: Thank you to all who supported the Fort Dodge Noon Kiwanis Pancake Day. It was a great success. Funds will be used to provide dictionaries to third-graders, give books and a meal to participants of the Dodger Academy Afterschool program, support our international project of ELIMINATE: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus, support scholarships plus so much more. ACA helps people with pre-existing conditions

To the editor: The anniversary of the ACA marks a milestone for those with pre-existing conditions. Prior to the Affordable Care Act being signed into law, people with pre-existing conditions could be denied healthcare coverage or charged more for healthcare coverage. So, who does the ACA benefit? • 17 million children. One in four children, or roughly 17 million, have a pre-existing condition. • 68 million women. More than half of women and girls nationally have a pre-existing condition. • 30 million people aged 55-64. 84 percent of older adults, 30.5 million ...
