Thanks monument company

To the editor: After all the bad things happening lately, it did my heart good to pick up The Messenger (Sept. 1) and read some news (good). Kallin Johnson Monument volunteers fixing stones and cleaning up Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry after the derecho. I have a lot of relatives buried there. I didn’t know it had been hit. There’s still good people in this world. Thank you Kallin Johnson volunteers! Vivian Whitehill Fort Dodge

Proud to endorse Fleener

To the editor: Knowing Luke Fleener for his entire law enforcement career, I am proud to endorse him for Webster County sheriff. Luke has had numerous letters to the editor endorsing him, but two in particular are right on point. Humboldt County Chief Deputy Cory Lampe and former Webster County Deputy Jason Bahr couldn’t have stated why they support Luke any better. Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Walter is a very good deputy and canine handler, but Luke is the one who has what it takes to run the Sheriff’s Department. It is sad that law enforcement has come under assault ...

Supports Fleener for sheriff

To the editor: I am writing this letter in support of Luke Fleener for Webster County Sheriff. I have known Luke for the past 30 years. During those years, Luke has been more than a coworker and friend. He has been a fellow sheriff’s deputy, detective, sergeant, and my immediate supervisor. Luke greatly influenced my career in law enforcement. When Luke was a police officer with the Fort Dodge Police Department, I began “riding along” with him to see if law enforcement was a career I wanted to pursue. Since that time, I served as a law enforcement officer in the state of Iowa ...

The participants represented 11 states: FL, IA, IL, MD, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, SD, WI; and 47 different towns in Iowa. There were 39 athletes from Fort Dodge, Twin Lakes, and the surrounding communities of Clare, Gowrie, ...

Thanks county for new solar measure

To the Editor: I want to thank the Webster County Board of Supervisors for their hard work to pass a solar ordinance that makes it possible for developers to pursue large-scale renewable projects in the county. The developments enabled by this ordinance will bring an economic boost to the area and allow landowners to reduce burdensome energy costs during this unprecedented time when each and every dollar counts. Solar energy is a reliable source of electricity – it requires no fuel and is able to withstand severe weather while still supplying energy in the most dire of ...

Supports Luke Fleener for sheriff

To the editor: I am writing this letter to encourage all Webster County voters to elect Luke Fleener sheriff. I have served as a deputy sheriff in Humboldt County since 2007. Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Luke on many occasions. I have always been impressed with his knowledge, work ethic and integrity. Luke’s resume in the sheriff’s office is second to none. He has experience as a road deputy, supervising employees and directly investigating and supervising major crimes. I can personally attest to his ability as an investigator. We’ve ...
