Many alumni of Iowa Central Community College made admirable contributions to the college community during their student days and have distinguished careers in the years that follow. The college honors some of these alumni each fall by inducting them into the Triton Hall of Fame. That annual event takes place this evening at Hodges Fieldhouse.

Garland Hanson was singled out as this year’s winner of the Triton Humanitarian Award. The 10 additional 2015 Hall of Fame honorees include five Distinguished Alumni Award winners and five Triton Athletic Award winners.

Those chosen for the Distinguished Alumni Award are:

Bruce Shimkat,

Bruce Murman,

Ben Smith,

Denisa (Gace) Bellani and

Elias Johnson.

The Triton Athletic Award winners are:

R. Michael St. Clair, 1974 – Football,

Andy Josephson, 1998 – Football,

Nicole Benson, 1998 – Basketball,

Dan Lyons, 2005 – Baseball and

Jessica (Hunecke) Knippel, 2008 – Basketball.

On Thursday, this newspaper published profiles of each of these outstanding alumni. The Messenger congratulates the honorees on their selection and joins Iowa Central in applauding their varied achievements and contributions.
