Margaret Sopavich
Margaret Sopavich, 86, of Fort Dodge, died peacefully at Trinity Regional Medical Center on December 6, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be held in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass, starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted with the arrangements.
Margaret was born to Raymond and Anna (Hilbert) Gales on May 20, 1939. She attended school in St. Joe, Iowa. She graduated in 1957, then was employed as a worker in the lunchroom at St. Joe High School. Margaret then became a home caregiver for the Semprini Family. On October 21, 1961, she was united in marriage to Andrew M. Sopavich Jr. They made their home in Coalville, Iowa. In 1962 they were blessed with their daughter MaryAnn; 1966 came their 2nd blessing, daughter, Michelle. In 1975, Andrew (Mick) died in a tragic accident. Margaret remained in Coalville where she raised her daughters. Margaret became a home health care aide, where she serviced several families in the Fort Dodge and surrounding areas. She became a dietary aide and cook at the Marian Home and took great pride in her work.
Margaret is survived by her children MaryAnn (Paul) Feauto, Michelle (Dennis) Menke, her grandchildren Brett (Ashley) Feauto, Matthew (Brittney) Feauto, Jamie Menke, Amanda Menke (Kyle Gehrt), and Andrew (Kyla) Menke, 13 great grandchildren Hailey, Nicole, Aria, Andre, Osiris, Jade, Berlin, Orion, Crux, Parker, Asher, Tanner, and Carter. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend Audrey Gales and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Gales, her husband Andrew M. Sopavich Jr., her siblings, Raymond Gales, Theresa (Dale) McKibban, John (Delores) Gales, Rosanne Kinnetz, and James (Roberta) Gales.
Margaret enjoyed garage sales, thrift stores and bargain hunting. Most of all, Margaret enjoyed her family. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. She looked forward to the holidays and the birthdays and seeing all the kids and how they’ve grown. She was a very special Mom, Grandma, Mookie, Button Nose, GiGi, Great Grandma. She will be missed dearly and the love and memories she gave to each and every one of us we will hold in our hearts forever.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
