Medicare changes shared on Sunday

ALGONA — A Sunday Senior Fellowship will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Algona. David and Peg Skilling, trained SHIIP counselors, will share the latest information to changes in Medicare and prescription insurance. A light supper will follow the presentation, an RSVP would be appreciated but not necessary so there is a count for the meal of those coming. Reformation 500 celebration Oct. 15

As a part of Grace Lutheran Church’s on-going Reformation 500 celebration, Jive for Five! Brass Quintet and organist Bruce Perry will present A Mighty Fortress at 3 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the church, 211 South Ninth St. The concert features festive arrangements of Luther’s most famous hymn, as well a Felix Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony arranged for brass and organ. All are invited to share in the celebration. Admission is a freewill donation.

Pulled pork supper is set for Sunday

LEHIGH — The Lehigh United Methodist Church will hold its Second Sunday Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the church. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, potato chips, pie or other dessert, ice cream, and a drink. The cost is a freewill donation. Carry-out is available. This will be the last time for pulled pork this year. A soup supper will be held next month.

SALT will meet on Wednesday

The First United Methodist Church youth group SALT for middle-school youths will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, 127 N. 10th St. Children will be picked up at the middle school after classes and parents must pick them up by 5 p.m. A snack is served along with a lesson and lots of games and fun for youths.

Pork tenderloin supper is Oct. 14

CALLENDER — The ninth annual Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church hand-breaded pork tenderloin supper will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the church in Callender. The menu will include tenderloin sandwich, salads, chips, dessert bars, and ice cream. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for fifth-grade children and younger (1/2 sandwich). Carry-outs will be available.

Toxic faith explored at Lifetree Cafe

Ways that religion is sometimes harmful will be explored at noon and 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lifetree Cafe. The program, titled “Toxic Faith: When Religion Hurts,” features a filmed interview with Sam Brower, the private investigator who cracked open the case that led to the arrest of Warren Jeffs, the leader of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Latter-day Saints. “It was unbelievable to discover there is this completely lawless town in America that is run by a church and a dictator,” says Brower. “He (Jeffs) manipulated people and could get them to do what he wanted ...
