FD man sentenced on federal meth charge
A Fort Dodge man has been sentenced to about four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a drug charge, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
Alan E. Beier, 61, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, federal prosecutors reported. But they added he also had cocaine and marijuana with him when he was arrested in Clear Lake on Sept, 14, 2024.
A complaint about his driving led to Beier’s arrest. The Clear Lake Police Department received a complaint about a dark colored motorcycle with a dim headlight and no taillight. Police spotted the motorcycle, stopped it and arrested Beier for traffic violations, the attorney’s office reported.
Beier and his motorcycle were then searched. Prosecutors reported that officers found 235 grams of methamphetamine, 82 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of cocaine and $864 in cash.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Beier admitted to purchasing the drugs for $2,600 in Minnesota and had plans to sell the methamphetamine.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Beier to 42 months in prison. He remains in custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service pending transfer to a federal prison.
