One hurt in OHV park crash

A LifeFlight helicopter landed at the Gypsum City Off-Highway Vehicle Park Tuesday afternoon to pick up someone who was critically injured in a crash there. Preliminary reports indicate that a man was thrown off of a dirt bike when it crashed inside the park south of Fort Dodge. The incident remains under investigation by the Law Enforcement Bureau of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The crash was reported at 2:25 p.m. Firefighters from Otho and Fort Dodge, Webster County sheriff’s deputies and the Iowa State Patrol responded along with DNR officers and the LifeFlight crew.

Two new officers join FD Police Department

Two new police officers have been hired in Fort Dodge. They are Benjamin Loy and Trevor Satern. Loy is a native of Washington and graduate of Washington High School. He most recently worked as a Manson police officer. Satern is a native of Humboldt and a graduate of Humboldt High School. He is an Army veteran and will be attending the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The new officers fill vacancies in the Police Department.

Dayton boil advisory lifted

DAYTON — The boil advisory from the City of Dayton for the rodeo grounds, golf course, and Fourth Avenue Southeast has been lifted. The boil advisory happened earlier in the week when a contractor hit a water main.

Dogs seized in Webster County

A total of 29 dogs and puppies were seized Thursday at a rural Webster County property where sick and emaciated puppies had been previously found, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The animals were seized in the course of an investigation that began July 29 when Webster County Animal Protection, which provides animal control services, reported possible dog neglect at the site near Badger. Gas leak causes evacuation at FD hotel

A Fort Dodge hotel was evacuated Friday afternoon when a broken pipe allowed a high concentration of natural gas to flow into the building. The gas leak happened at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites at 523 Kirkberg Blvd. on the east side of the city. Fire Department Capt. Jeff Hill said a gas meter outside the building was hit by a lawn mower, which caused a gas pipe inside the building to break. That released gas into the building. Dolliver park road is closed

LEHIGH — The road through Dolliver Memorial State Park is closed for a major road repaving project, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. The closure includes the campgrounds, cabins, lodges, shelters, and picnic areas. Additionally, boaters on the Des Moines River will not be able to access the boat ramp in the park as the road into the park is closed for repaving. The project is expected to last several weeks, depending on weather.
