The Webster County Conservation Department is holding a flint knapping class at 6 p.m. Thursday at Camp WaNoKi, 2400 WaNoKi Camp Road, Fort Dodge. Donnie Arends and Matt Mitchell will share stories and help beginners learn this ancient skill. Special guest archaeologist Mark Anderson from the Cherokee Sanford Museum will explain the types and uses of stone tools throughout time.
A new pumper truck for the Fort Dodge Fire Department has been ordered. The City Council on Monday voted to buy the truck from Pierce Manufacturing, of Appleton, Wisconsin, for $1,173,196. When the new truck is delivered in late 2028, it will replace a 2001 model now in use.
Drive-thru flu and COVID shot clinics will be held this week by the Webster County Health Department. The first clinic will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The second clinic will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Both will be held in the parking lot of the Health Department building at 723 First Ave. S. Three local students were named to honors lists at Des Moines Area Community College for the recent summer semester. Jonathan Prach, of Fort Dodge, was named to the President’s List. He is studying cybersecurity. Jesseca Pirie, a business student from Callender, and Alexander Hansen, a pathway engineer/manufacturing student from Fort Dodge, were named to the Dean’s List.
A man charged with cutting another man with a knife during a June altercation in downtown Fort Dodge has pleaded guilty. Jeffery O. Holland.,60, of Fort Dodge, received a two year sentence, but it was suspended, according to court records. That means he will not serve any time behind bars, apart from the time he served when he was first arrested. The incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. June 20 in an alley in the 900 block of First Avenue North.
