GFDGA attends international conference

Fort Dodge and Webster County are being represented at an international economic development conference this week in Colorado. Astra Ferris, chief executive officer of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, and Jefferson Fosbender, the alliance’s economic development director, are at the International Economic Development Council Annual Conference in Denver. The conference program features sessions and keynote speakers on challenges and opportunities in economic development. Topics include community revitalization, workforce development and sustainable growth.

Four graduate from DMACC

Four area residents graduated from Des Moines Area Community College at the end of the summer semester. Community school drive is Saturday

Community Caring Bridge is holding its first annual drive on Saturday to take in donations to help fill the pantries and hygiene cabinets at Fort Dodge Community Schools for boys and girls of all ages. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Dodge Community School Administration Office parking lot, 109 N. 25th St., or 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex soccer fields, 1628 Nelson Ave. Donations should be non-perishable food items and hygiene items for boys and girls of all ages. Funding for FD Fiber on council agenda

The Fort Dodge City Council will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S. During that meeting, the elected officials will consider setting up a loan in which Fort Dodge Fiber, the city’s municipal broadband utility now under construction, would borrow about $3.2 million from the city’s sewer fund. That money would cover construction cost shortfalls. Fort Dodge Fiber would have to pay that money back by 2029. Webster Co. road closure announced

Madison Avenue from Iowa Highway 175 (360th Street) north one mile to 350th Street will be closed for a bridge replacement project. This bridge crosses East Buttrick Creek. According to the Webster County Roads Department, the bridge replacement is expected to take about three weeks.

Franchise fee meeting today in FD

There will be a public informational meeting this evening about the plan to implement new utility franchise fees to pay for hiring eight more police officers in Fort Dodge. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
