VFW Post and Auxiliary are holding a turkey dinner at 4:30 p.m. until gone on Saturday at the VFW, 518 S. 29th St. The menu is turkey, dressing, real mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, dessert and coffee for $10 per person. The dinner will be served dine in or carryout.
VFW Post 1856, 518 S. 29th St., is holding a ham and bean soup meal beginning at noon Monday for a freewill donation. The meal will continue throughout the day. The public is invited.
There will be a Veterans Day celebration and swing dance beginning at noon on Nov. 11 at the Best Western Starlite Village, 1518 Third Ave. N.W. At noon there will be food and drinks for purchase. There will be a guest speaker on the bridge project at 1 p.m., followed by live music from the ’50s and ’60s by Maurice Jules at 1:30 p.m. The Michael Lyon Jazz Quarter will perform at 3 p.m. with a swing band and dance. Trinity United Methodist Church, 838 N. 25th St., will host a trunk or treat event from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the church parking lot.
GOWRIE — No one was injured in a garage fire in Gowrie early Friday afternoon. The fire was reported at 12:45 p.m. on Main Street, east of City Park. Gowrie Fire Chief Brett Carlson said the fire started in a mower and the flames spread to the garage. A car parked inside the garage was also damaged. The Gowrie fire and police departments responded. They were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
The Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa’s shelter in Fort Dodge will be closed to the public today. The shelter at 732 S. 32nd St. will reopen to the public on Wednesday as regularly scheduled.
