The first Eggs and Issues forum of the 2025 legislative session will be held Saturday in Fort Dodge. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Bioscience and Health Sciences building at Iowa Central Community College. Eggs and Issues is sponsored by the college and the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.
DAKOTA CITY — The newly created Springvale Amateur Radio Club will be setting up its equipment to showcase amateur radio from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday across from 407 Fifth St. N. in Dakota City. Come watch amateur radio operators set up a field station and antennas, contact people around the world, operate voice, digital and morse code, test their equipment and abilities and practice emergency skills. Visitors are welcome to stop by, ask questions and learn about the exciting hobby of amateur radio. You may even have the opportunity to pick up a microphone and get on the air.
The 515 Big Band will host a jazz concert Friday at the Phillips Luxury Apartments. 515 Big Band is comprised of jazz musicians from around Iowa, with many headquartered in the Fort Dodge area. The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with doors to Phillips opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15. Entry for students is free. Drinks are available to purchase at the event.
Schnurr & Co. released an audit report on the Fort Dodge Community School District. The company reported that the district’s revenues totaled $64,235,230 for the fiscal year that ended June 30. That is a 5.01 percent decrease from the prior fiscal year. Expenses for the district for the fiscal year that ended June 30, totaled $61,659,122. That is a .27 percent decrease from the prior year. A soup supper will be held in Fort Dodge Monday evening to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The supper will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 1827 Fourth Ave. S. The menu will be vegetable beef soup, chicken noodle soup, chili and cornbread. The cost is $5 for a small bowl of soup and $7 for a large one. “It’s just a way to highlight Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” said Sherry Washington, an organizer of the event. “It’s just a way to bring folks together.”
The Luther College Nordic Choir will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. 10th St. The Nordic Choir 2025 tour features repertoire and themes that celebrate both choral music of the past and present. Audiences can expect to hear music composed by Antonio Lotti, Jacob Handl Gallus, Ruthie Foster, Jennfer Lucy Cook and Marques L.A. Garrett.
