Matt Weir has been promoted to sergeant in the Fort Dodge Police Department. He joined the department in 2016. He has served as a patrol officer and school resource officer. He is a member of the Special Emergency Response Team and is a crisis hostage negotiator. Weir has an associate degree from Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is holding kids winter crafts from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the library. There will be winter craft kits, dot painting and magna tiles available while supplies last. An adult must accompany all children. There is no registration or fee. The event will also be held on Jan. 25 and Feb. 1.
The Knights of Columbus are holding a fish fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Parish Center, 402 N. Eighth St. Dinners include fried fish, baked fish, shrimp or grilled cheese served with baked potato or French fries, homemade coleslaw, roll, ice cream, coffee and lemonade. The meal will be served dine in or carryout. Tickets for fried fish, baked fish or shrimp are $12, combo meal of fish and shrimp is $14, grilled cheese or kid’s portion is $6 for children ages 12 and under. The dinner is a Respect for Life fundraiser.
