New truck coming to FDFD

A new pumper truck for the Fort Dodge Fire Department was purchased by the City Council Monday.

The truck is being bought from Reliant Fire Apparatus, of Slinger, Wisconsin, for $795,000.

It will be built by Pierce Manufacturing, of Appleton, Wisconsin. It will be able to pump 1,750 gallons of water per minute. It will carry 500 gallons of water to put out small fires and to start the initial attack on larger fires. It will also carry 25 gallons of foam.

The truck is expected to be delivered in late 2022 or early 2023.

It will replace a 2011 model with a long history of mechanical problems. In a report to the council, Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter wrote that during the last fiscal year, 300 hours of labor and $28,000 worth of parts were needed to keep the older truck running.

Starting at $4.94/week.
