Gaels earn road sweep

EAGLE GROVE — For the first time this season, the St. Edmond volleyball team hit the road.

The Gaels, who opened the year with eight games at either Hodges Fieldhouse on the campus of Iowa Central or their own SEHS gym, scored a sweep over Eagle Grove here Monday night.

Scores were 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.

“It was good to go on the road,” St. Edmond head coach Heather Seeden said. “It’s a different perspective and we’re a little more self-contained when we are in someone else’s gym.

“I think that has benefits.”

Eden Horn recorded 13 kills, Ava Underberg added nine and both seniors Faith Shirbroun and Anna Lursen contributed three. Senior Ava Andrew had three aces and Abby Huss finished with 25 assists.

“As a team, we had nine serving aces,” Seeden said. “We were also able to get seniors Madi Davis and Maggie Flaherty on the court, and both did a great job for us.”

After opening the year with a slew of home matches, the Gaels remain on the road until October, heading to Clarion-Goldfield/Dows on Thursday for North Central Conference play.

Starting at $4.94/week.
