Teen charged in Pocahontas County stabbing

ROLFE — A teenager has been charged with stabbing a man in the face and body Sunday in rural Pocahontas County.

The victim, an 18-year-old from Welcome, Minnesota, was initially treated at Pocahontas Community Hospital before being airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was not identified by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department.

His accused attacker, a 15-year-old from Laurens, was charged with three counts of willful injury causing bodily injury, according to the Sheriff’s Department. He was placed in Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee. His name was not released.

The incident was reported at 3:08 a.m. Sunday at 45780 330th Ave. northeast of Rolfe. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the victim was assaulted at a party. Deputies were informed that the victim was heading to Pocahontas Community Hospital in a private vehicle. Law enforcement officers stopped the vehicle with the victim in it on Iowa Highway 15 at 490th Street. Ambulances were sent to that location, and crews treated the man and transported him to the Pocahontas hospital.

Deputies were assisted by police from Pocahontas and Laurens, ambulance crews from Rolfe and Pocahontas and the Pocahontas County Attorney’s Office.
