Rockwell City to consider $625,000 bond

ROCKWELL CITY — Rockwell City has set a public hearing to consider a general obligation loan agreement to spruce up Main Street.

The loan agreement for $625,000 will be open for the public’s input at Rockwell City City Council’s next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on March 16.

The loan would cover a project planned to repair about 200 feet of Main Street running near Brower Street, according to Mayor Phil Heinlen.

Main Street has been affected by the construction project underway to put in a new addition at South Central Calhoun Elementary School.

Heinlen said the city expected a couple blocks around the intersection of Brower and Main Street to take a hit with construction, deciding to fold an additional 200 feet of Main Street into the project.

“That 200 feet of Main Street is not in good shape,” he said, as potholes and other damage became exacerbated by construction.

Heinlen estimated the Brower Street Project at a total of $1.2 million, including portions of private property whose construction will be paid for by other entities like the United Methodist Church. The addition to the school, which includes a gymnasium, office space and classrooms, anticipates completion by August 2021.
