FD City Council to continue budget talk
More budget discussions and a new way to help pay for the annual Independence Day fireworks are on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council on Monday.
The council will meet at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., for a workshop on the 2018-2019 budget. The spending proposals for business affairs and community growth, inspections, tax increment financing, the two self-supported municipal improvement districts, the central garage, solid waste collection and the storm water utility are to be reviewed.
The council’s regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building. During that session, the council will consider a proposal to earmark half of the fines collected from fireworks violations to pay for the large professional fireworks show conducted at Independence day. The proposal specifically calls for the city to contribute whichever is greater: $5,000 or half of the amount received in fines.
