The renaming ceremony for the former Mini Park in Pleasant Valley will be held on June 26 at 11 a.m.

The park, located on 10th Avenue Southwest between Eighth and Ninth streets, has been renamed H.C. Meriwether Park, after one of the first African-Americans in Fort Dodge to own a business.

The renaming was approved by the Fort Dodge City Council on May 14.

Multiple speakers will be on hand for the ceremony, including: Fort Dodge Mayor Matt Bemrich; Fort Dodge Councilmen Terry Moehnke and Neven Conrad; Lori Branderhorst, the city’s director of parks; recreation and forestry; Webster County Supervisor Merrill Leffler; state Rep. Helen Miller, D-Fort Dodge; state Rep. Ako Abdul-Samad, D-Des Moines; Bishop Madai Taylor; and Sherry Washington.
