FD council to discuss open burning

Fort Dodge City Council members will discuss open burning and once again try to determine the future ownership of a rundown house now in the local government’s possession when they meet Monday.

The council will meet for a workshop on open burning at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

Since 2010, city law has banned open burning of yard waste except during designated periods in the spring and fall. Suspending the burning ban for those periods once required council action. However, in September 2016 the council gave the city manager the power to suspend the burning ban.

At that time, Councilman Andy Fritz suggested eliminating the ban on open burning.

The council’s regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

During that session, the council will consider selling city-owned property at 801 N. 16th St.

The council will also consider awarding a contract for a water main project and the purchase of a pair of open shelters for parks.
