Justin Grimm and Mary Hainzinger bring decades of experience to Market on Market in Gowrie. The pair worked for the Dayton Community Grocery before the store had to close its doors last month.

GOWRIE — When Mary Hainzinger joined the Dayton Community Grocery staff years ago, she hoped that it would be her final job before retirement. But when the local store shuttered its doors last month, she and other staff members, including Store Manager Justin Grimm, were on the hunt for new employment.

“I wanted to stay local and work with people that I consider friends,” said Hainzinger.

Gowrie’s Market on Market grocery store, 1119 Market St., reached out to both Hainzinger and Grimm and offered them jobs in the local store.

“Gowrie reached out and asked if I’d be interested in managing here,” Grimm said. “I started out as a cashier and meat cutter, and worked my way up. I’ve done just about everything in a store.”

“I already knew Justin,” added Hainzinger. “It’s nice to work with a manager you’re familiar with.”

Grimm said his goal is to keep the small town community’s store open and is thankful that Gowrie residents have welcomed him to the store.

“We want to bring in new products, run specials, keep pricing affordable, and expand our meat offerings,” said Grimm. “I want this store to feel special, like the people and the town it serves.”

Plans are already in motion to bring in coolers from Dayton and to reorganize the store layout for improved customer flow. The meat department will also see upgrades aimed at boosting variety and quality. The store will offer special meat boxes from Webster City Custom Meats, much like the Dayton store did.

Market on Market will also continue to provide lunch-time meals on the go as well.

“I love the small-town feel, the people that you see every day in the store, and the relationships that you build,” said Grimm. “It makes everything more meaningful.”

Starting at $4.94/week.
