Pair charged with identity theft

A Tennessee man and Iowa woman have been charged with identity theft after trying to withdraw nearly $40,000 Thursday from Availa Bank in Fort Dodge, according to criminal complaints filed against them.

A Fort Dodge police officer responded to a call at the bank, located at 130 N. 29th St., at 12:03 p.m. Thursday after a man and woman attempted to withdraw $38,469, according to Fort Dodge police. When contacted by police, both parties identified themselves as the names on the fake IDs.

Upon further investigation, the pair’s true identities were discovered to be Eric Cureton, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Julie Gardner, of Independence, Iowa, according to the complaint filed with Webster County District Court.

Both have been charged with identity theft of over $10,000, which is a Class C felony.

Cureton has also been charged with interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

Cureton and Gardner were taken into custody and are currently being held in the Webster County Jail.
