State auditor releases report on Webster County

County’s revenue was boosted by federal COVID relief

Iowa Auditor of State Rob Sand has released an audit of the Webster County government for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2022.

During that fiscal year, the county’s revenue was $48.216,563, according to the state auditor.

That is a 16.3 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. The state report attributed the increase to income from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

The audit found that county government expenditures for that fiscal year were $35,500, 418. That is an 8.9 percent increase.

The auditor’s report did not list any significant problems.

It did include seven “findings” for which the state auditors recommended improvements. These findings related to segregating the duties of employees who handle money, recording payables and capital assets, and tax increment financing certifications.

“I think overall we did OK,” Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner said.

“For a lot of these findings we just don’t have the ability to do it the way they want us to,” she added. “The budget is tight right now so there’s no way we’re going to be adding more people.”

Starting at $4.94/week.
