No charges filed in dog attack

Driscoll: 'No criminal act' indicated in investigation

No charges will be filed against the owner of three dogs that attacked a Fort Dodge woman on Nov. 24, according to Webster County Attorney Darren Driscoll.

According to a statement from Driscoll, the investigation following the vicious attack revealed nothing to “indicate that any criminal act occurred.” The woman was inside the home of the dog owner, alone with the animals, when she was attacked, he said.

“This is a shocking tragedy and we wish the victim strength as she recuperates from her injuries,” Driscoll said.

Fort Dodge Police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South 16th Street at about 11:25 a.m. on Nov. 24 after Webster County 911 dispatchers received a call from an individual stating they could hear someone yelling for help.

A responding officer arrived and found a woman being attacked by three dogs and after unsuccessfully trying to scare the dogs off, the officer shot all three dogs multiple times to stop the attack.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified by authorities, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after first being treated at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.
