First Covenant Choir to present Christmas Cantata

The First Covenant Choir, a 40-member group of vocalists at First Covenant Church, 201 Ave. H, will be presenting its Christmas Cantata, “Creation Will Be at Peace” Saturday and Sunday.

The Saturday performance will begin at 5 p.m., while the Sunday one will begin at 10:30 a.m. Both will be in the church, which is near U.S. Highway 169 north of the Iowa Central Community College campus.

“Please come and be blessed as you journey with the singers, first to the birthplace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and we conclude this beautiful cantata with the challenge to witness to all, the message of salvation,” said Armona Redenius, the choir’s director.

The cantata will feature songs such as, “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Mary & Joseph’s Song,” “Children Go Where I Send Thee” and “Creation Will Be At Peace,” among many others.

Narration for the cantata is provided by Tim Anderson, Barb Farnham, Chris Hayek, Aryssa Lumsden, Shanda Kinseth, Julie Davis, Steve Stamper, David Lass, Joni Kruse, and Todd Redenius.

The soloists for the cantata are Micah Flaherty, Don Bergman, Paul Halverson, and Elissa Savov.

The First Covenant Praise Band will be accompanying the congregational carols as well as playing a Christmas arrangement. The band is comprised of David Lass and Armona Redenius on trumpets, Micah Flaherty and Don Bergman on trombones, Lisa Flaherty on piano, Linda Benson on keyboard and Dean Davis on drums.

The cantata is accompanied by Shelly Bottorff and Lisa Flaherty on piano, Benson on keyboard, and Davis on drums.
