Governor’s Scholars recognized

Fort Dodge Senior High's DeJong, Roberts honored

Mina DeJong and Simeon Roberts, seniors at Fort Dodge Senior High School, were honored at the recent Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony in Des Moines.

DeJong has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, including multiple Advanced Placement and college courses.

She is an officer in the National Honor Society and is a Fort Dodge Senior High School Ambassador. She is a member of Large Group and Individual Speech, the cast of the fall play and spring musical, choir and band.

DeJong plans to major in biology on the pre-dental track at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

Roberts has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

He is the student body president, vice president of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and president of the Diversity Action Troupe.

He is also a member of the cast of the fall play and spring musical, speech, band, choir, Silver Cord, the cross county team, the track team, the soccer team, the Social Justice Council, Student Ambassadors, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, State Hip-Hop, Little Dodger, Big Dodger and Junior Leadership.

He plans to attend Iowa Central Community College for a year then transfer to a four-year school to pursue a psychology major.

The Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony is a joint effort of the governor’s office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Farm Bureau. This recognition program began in 2003.
