This ghastly ghost awaits visitors to PocaHAUNTus, a haunted house fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce and Fire Department in Pocahontas.
POCAHONTAS — Get ready for jump scares, creepy scenes, and a terrifying experience at the brand-new haunted house, PocaHAUNTus, at the Pocahontas Fire Station this Halloween season.
PocaHAUNTus is a haunted house put on as a fundraiser by the Pocahontas Fire Department and Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce.
“This is a project that both the Pocahontas Chamber and the Fire Department have talked about doing for a while, and we finally joined forces to make it happen,” said Parker Aden, chamber director. “We have our local expert, Wendi Malecek, owner of New Impressions on Main Street, creating the awesome vision for the haunted house. She is incredibly creative and sublime at decorating and crafting. I cannot give her enough kudos for her creativity and ambition on this project.”
There will be two parts to this haunted house to make it a little more friendly for younger kids. The Lights On time will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., this is intended for upper elementary students to see the decorations and walk through the haunted house with less scares.
The Lights Off scarier tours will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and are open to middle school students through adults who want a terrifying experience.

A giant spider is among the creepy critters to be found in the PocaHAUNTus haunted house.
The haunted house will consist of three big areas with multiple rooms for guests to walk through. Kids 12 and under will have to be with a parental guardian unless they go through during Lights On.
“This will be dark and filled with plenty of jump scares and terrifying scenes,” said Aden, “think ‘Stranger Things,’ haunted creepy dolls, zombies, disgusting spiders, and much more.”
There will be a concession stand available on the evenings of the event for guests to enjoy.
Please be aware strobe lights and fog machines will be used inside the haunted house.
“We’re grateful to the Fire Department for letting us use the space and being a partner with us,” Aden said.
The Fire Department will also be handing out treat bags with Halloween safety tips and other treats for children who attend.
PocaHAUNTus will be on October 20, 21, 27, 28 at the Pocahontas Fire Station Shed, 300 N.W. Seventh St. Lights On tours run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Lights Off tours run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
To go through the tours, the cost is $10 a person or $8 a person if you bring a canned food donation for the local food pantry.
Proceeds from the haunted house help support the Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce and the Pocahontas Fire Department equally as non-profit entities.
Anyone who attends will have to sign a waiver and review the rules before entering. The waiver and rules can be found on their website, www.pokychamber.com/pocahauntus. Waivers must be signed at the Fire Station, not prior to your arrival.
Parking will be behind the fire station and in the parking lot for Rittgers Spine and Wellness and Pocahontas Family Dental. No parking will be allowed in front of the fire station, to prevent the bay doors from being blocked.
Aden added, “If you haven’t been to or heard of Pocahontas before, you will after this event. It is going to be a spooky, terrifying, and spectacularly fun haunted house, and in years moving forward we will make this an annual event for our community.”
