Seward seeks City Council seat

Jim Seward

As a counselor, Jim Seward has poured his time and energy into helping his clients.

Now he wants to do the same thing for his city.

Seward has entered the race for the at-large Fort Dodge City Council seat to be filled in the Feb. 7 special election.

“I want to invest my time and pour my energies into the community,” he said.

“I can bring a level head to the council,” he added.

He said economic growth and community beautification projects would be his priorities if he is elected.

Seward ran for the Ward 2 council seat in 2015. He also ran for mayor of Maquoketa in 2005 when he lived there.

He is a licensed mental health counselor who owns Grace Counseling and Consulting LLC in Fort Dodge.

Seward, who lives at 2525 16th Ave. N., is a native of eastern Iowa. He graduated from DeWitt High School in DeWitt. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, and a master’s degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. He earned a doctorate degree in education from Argosy University, a now-shuttered institution.

He taught for 12 years and has 30 years of experience in social services.

He has three daughters.

Other candidates in the race are Kyrie Borsay, Steven Hansen, Richard Higgins, Wayne Mason, Eugene Newsome, and Megan Secor. A primary election will be held on Jan. 10 to narrow the field to two candidates.
