A private airplane headed to Lincoln, Nebraska, was diverted to the Fort Dodge Regional Airport on Thursday morning after one of the engines on the 2011 Cessna Citation Excel business jet failed.

The Webster County Telecommunications Center was alerted about the incoming aircraft by Minneapolis Center at 8:38 a.m., according to a release from the Fort Dodge Regional Airport.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department, Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Webster County Emergency Management, the Badger Volunteer Fire Department and airport staff were immediately dispatched and arrived before the aircraft reached the airport.

The Cessna was able to make a safe landing on the runway at 8:53 a.m. and no injuries were reported. The aircraft’s second engine was working properly.

According to Director of Aviation Rhonda Chambers, the airport performs annual tabletop emergency preparedness drills to review and discuss the actions each agency would take in a simulated emergency. The most recent drill was held on May 17.

“These exercises have prepared us to respond and understand our individual roles and responsibilities in an airport emergency,” Director of Aviation Rhonda Chambers said. “While we hope these calls never happen, we are prepared to respond.”

According to data from FlightAware, the aircraft left Stuart Powell Field in Danville, Kentucky, at 8:07 a.m. EDT, headed toward Lincoln Airport. It was in the air for one hour and 46 minutes when it landed in Fort Dodge at 8:53 a.m. CDT. Also according to FlightAware, the aircraft is registered to BandyCo LLC of Stanford, Kentucky.
