Taking center stage with Isaac Larson

Desire to perform — Larson always looking for ways to improve

Isaac Larson

Isaac Larson found himself needing to be pushed.

Larson, a senior at St. Edmond Catholic School, found that passion and drive by being involved in music.

“I think the desire to perform comes from wanting to push myself to do better,” Larson said. “If I never performed, I wouldn’t have any reason to improve. But performances push me to improve and be the best I can be.

“I really look up to the St. Edmond music department directors, Mr. (Ben) Wegner and Mr. (Ryan) Swedean. They also push me to do my best.”

Larson was involved in choir, band, show choir band (Gael band), jazz band and musical tech during his time as a Gael.

“My favorite memory has got to be performing in Iowa All-State Chorus,” he said. “I got to sing with so many amazing people. I’ve also had many great memories of playing the drum set for the St. Edmond show choir at performances.

“There’s always so much energy at those performances and it is such a great feeling.”

For Larson, being involved helped him find his way.

“I think it is important to be involved in the music program because it builds skills which you can use forever and lets you meet people and make friends who you will share many memories with,” Larson said. “I hope that future St. Edmond performers will remember me as a kind and helpful person with a passion for music.”

Larson will be attending Iowa State University in Ames in the fall to study computer science.
