Western pleads not guilty

He is accused of attempted murder, other charges

A Minnesota man accused of attacking a Fort Dodge woman in her home on Nov. 2, 2021, has pleaded not guilty to an array of violent felonies.

Marcus Monteze Western Jr., 22, was arrested on Nov. 4 in Minneapolis, just two days after Fort Dodge police say he and 19-year-old Sharon K. Morara attacked a Fort Dodge woman in her home on Nov. 2.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found by officers responding to a welfare check at 2418 12th Ave. S. around 2 a.m. on Nov. 2. Upon entering the residence, officers found a 21-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was later airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital in critical condition.

Western is charged with:

• Attempted murder, a Class B forcible felony.

• First-degree burglary, a Class C forcible felony.

• Conspiracy to commit murder, a Class C felony.

• Assault while participating in a felony, a Class C felony.

Western entered his written plea of not guilty in Webster County District Court on Monday morning.

Western’s trial is scheduled for May 10. He is being held at the Webster County Jail on a cash-only bond of $1,150,000.
