Minnesota man has first court appearance

A Minnesota man arrested in Minneapolis on attempted murder charges from Fort Dodge has made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court.

Marcus Monteze Western Jr., 22, was arrested on Nov. 4 in Minneapolis, just two days after Fort Dodge police say he and 19-year-old Sharon K. Morara, attacked a Fort Dodge woman in her home on Nov. 2.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found by officers responding to a welfare check at 2418 12th Ave. S. around 2 a.m. on Nov. 2. Upon entering the residence, officers found a 21-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was later airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital in critical condition.

Western faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree burglary, both Class B felonies. His initial appearance in court was on Monday, after he was extradited from the Anoka County Jail in

Minnesota.

Morara was arrested on Nov. 5 in Minneapolis and was also charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary.

Western has collected a handful of additional felonies in relation to this case. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, a Class C felony; assault while participating in a felony, a Class C felony; and domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow, a Class D felony.

Western will have his preliminary hearing for the five charges on Dec. 22. He is being held at the Webster County Jail on a cash-only bond of $1,150,000.
