Johnson, Beaty nominated to District Court bench

A local county attorney and a local District Court associate judge have been nominated for the vacancy on the Iowa District Court District 2B bench.

The Judicial Nominating Commission for District 2B announced on Wednesday that it had nominated Jonathan Beaty and Derek Johnson for the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Gina Badding to the Iowa Court of Appeals earlier this summer.

Beaty, of Humboldt, is the Humboldt County Attorney and assistant Hamilton County Attorney. He received his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2001. He has been the Humboldt County Attorney since August 2011 and assistant Hamilton County Attorney since February 2013.

Beaty previously served as an assistant Webster County Attorney from October 2002 through March 2006.

Johnson, of Fort Dodge, is currently an associate judge for District 2B. He was appointed in February 2020. Prior to his appointment, Johnson worked in private law from May 2005 through February 2020. He also served as the Humboldt County Attorney from April 2004 to May 2005.

Johnson received his law degree from the Drake University Law School in May 1999.

Gov. Kim Reynolds now has 30 days to make an appointment to the bench.
