Kayla Jones Scholarship Ride is Aug. 28

The Kayla Jones Memorial Scholarship Ride, which has generated over half a million dollars for graduating Fort Dodge High School seniors, will take off again Aug. 28 for its 12th year.

The ride will begin and end at Lefti’s Neighborhood Bar, 2001 Second Ave. N. Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Registration is $15 for drivers and $10 for riders. Regular vehicles are welcome as well in addition to the motorcycles.

The ride will include stops at Unkies in Thor, Blue Moon in Renwick, Johnny’s Bar and Grill in Wesley, The Handlebar in LuVerne, and Antlers Pub and Grill in Clare.

The event will include a pork loin dinner for a freewill donation, a live and silent auction, T-shirts, and door prizes. The auction will start at 6 p.m.

Jones, the daughter of Heather and Mark Farrell and Todd and Becky Jones of Fort Dodge, died in a 2007 car accident at the age of 15. She was a sophomore cheerleader at Fort Dodge High School at the time of her passing.

Proceeds from the ride are divided up between graduates of Fort Dodge High School and St. Edmond High School. The last ride generated $70,000, granting 35 local graduating seniors $2,000 each.
