6 injured in two-vehicle crash

Police: medical episode caused collision

Six people were taken to the emergency room after police say a medical episode caused a driver to hit a MidAmerican Energy Co. pole before crashing into another vehicle.

The crash was reported at 9:21 a.m.

According to Sgt. Zach Stanley, of the Fort Dodge Police Department, the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was driving eastbound on Second Avenue North when he lost control of the vehicle after experiencing a medical episode.

The truck took out a MidAmerican Energy Co. pole before crashing into a GMC Acadia, whose driver was making a left-hand turn onto North 25th Street.

The Acadia had four child passengers, Stanley reported.

All six people were transported to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center with injuries.

According to Stanley, the injuries suffered by the driver of the Silverado are serious.

No citations were issued.

The Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department were on scene.
