Sales tax extended in most Humboldt communities
Vote was Tuesday
A 1-cent local option sales tax was renewed by voters in all but two Humboldt County communities on Tuesday.
The measure to renew the tax failed in LuVerne and Rutland.
A simple majority was needed to extend the tax, which has been place for 20 years.
For the city of Humboldt, the tax generated $546,553 in the fiscal year that ended June 30. That money is spent on streets and other infrastructure.
In unincorporated areas of Humboldt County, the tax generated $140,794 in the last fiscal year. That money is divided up, with 70 percent going to secondary roads and 30 percent going to community betterment initiatives.
