Bulk refuse program, asbestos removal on FD council agenda

The collection of bulk refuse items and a plan to remove the asbestos from the Wahkonsa Annex building downtown will be discussed by the Fort Dodge City Council tonight.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public is invited to observe the meeting remotely via the internet or by telephone.

The council’s work will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a workshop discussion of the bulk item pickup program.

The council’s business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. During that session, the elected officials will consider awarding a contract for removing asbestos from the Wahkonsa Annex in the 900 block of First Avenue South. REW Services Corp., of Des Moines, has submitted the apparent low bid of about $340,000.

Long-range plans call for that building, which is owned by the city, to be demolished in conjunction with the renovation of the Warden Plaza next door and the construction of a cultural and recreation center.
