Officials investigate possible homicide at Fort Dodge prison

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the circumstances surrounding an inmate found dead in his cell at Fort Dodge Correctional Facility Sunday evening, according to Iowa Department of Corrections communications director Cord Overton.

Thomas Andrew Daleske, 59, was found dead in his cell at approximately 5:15 p.m. The State Medical Examiner has yet to determine the final cause and manner of death. At the Department of Correction’s request, the DCI started an investigation by Monday afternoon.

The DCI and DOC are working with the Webster County Attorney on pending criminal charges, a press release said.

Independent sources confirmed that investigators have identified a suspect in the matter.

Daleske had been serving a 45-year maximum sentence for multiple charges related to sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child from Warren County. His incarceration began on October 31, 2000.

The DOC prioritizes notifying both the family of the deceased and victims of their crimes prior to releasing information to the public.
