Helgevold seeks re-election in Wright Co.

Supervisor to run for four-year term

EAGLE GROVE — Wright County Supervisor Karl Helgevold announced on Tuesday his bid for re-election.

“We’ve worked hard to make improvements and foster economic growth,” said Helgevold, who will look to keep his seat as a supervisor in District 3. “I believe we need strong leadership to continue on that path. I will continue to work for progress that benefits Wright County and its citizens.”

Helgevold said he has worked to keep taxes low, improve conditions and develop new business and growth opportunities in the county.

He grew up on a farm north of Eagle Grove. Helgevold graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1984. After living in Florida for 16 years, he moved back to the area to raise his family in 2000.

Helgevold was one of three supervisors who paved the way for Prestage Foods of Iowa to build its $300 million pork plant south of Eagle Grove, bringing almost 1,000 jobs to the area. Helgevold, along with Rick Rasmussen and Stan Watne, approved a development agreement with Prestage in August of 2016.

Helgevold was first elected to a five-member board in 2012. That term was supposed to be for four years, but was shortened to two years when the county voted to go to three supervisors instead of five.

In 2012, he won re-election. Helgevold has served two four-year terms since.

In 2019, Helgevold was elected president of the Iowa Association of Supervisors in District 2. He serves on the County Social Services Mental Health and Disability Services Region Board of Directors.

Helgevold has prided himself on working with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office to help modernize its communication system. If elected, Helgevold said that would continue to be one of his top priorities.

Helgevold operates a real estate investment company. He lives in Eagle Grove with his wife Jodie, where they raised their two sons.

Starting at $4.94/week.
