Members of Otho Fire Rescue and Moorland Fire Department responded to the fire along with Duncombe, Badger and Vincent fire departments.

OTHO — Fire departments from throughout the area responded to a mid-morning Tuesday fire near Franks Auto Salvage, 2289 Gypsum Hollow Road.

According to Otho Fire Chief Marty Smith, his department received the call around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for a fire that was spreading quickly and was getting out of control.

Upon arrival, Smith and members of the department determined that, due to the fire’s location, the number of trees in the ravine, and the lack of water in the area, mutual aid was needed.

Members from Duncombe, Moorland, Badger and Vincent fire departments all responded.

According to Smith, a consideration for the Fort Dodge Fire department’s ladder truck was discussed but it was not called to the site.

Nine fire apparatus and 13 fire personnel were on scene for approximately four hours. The departments were also assisted at the scene by staff from Franks Auto Salvage, the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency, and from a nearby family.

Starting at $4.94/week.
